INSTRUCTIONS FOR CHANGING FROM THUNDERBIRD (LAPOSADAGV.NET) TO GMAIL (GMAIL.COM)
A. EXPORT ADDRESS BOOK FROM THUNDERBIRD TO DESKTOP
Double click on Thunderbird Email icon on Desktop
Left click on Address Book
Left click on Personal Address Book
Left click on Tools
Left click on Export
At top, use arrow to select Save in: Desktop
At bottom, type a file name (Address Book)
Under that line, in the Save as type dropdown, left click on Comma Separated (this saves the contacts as a csv file)
Left click on Save
SEE YOUR ADDRESS BOOK ON THE DESKTOP.
B. SET UP GMAIL ACCOUNT
Go to google.com/accounts/new account
Complete the information on that page. Make the user name the first or last name and last 4 digits of phone number, if possible. Have the resident WRITE DOWN THE EMAIL ADDRESS AND THE PASSWORD.
Make an icon: Bookmark the email page to toolbar. Then drag it to Desktop.
Or Go to Google home page, see Mail on toolbar, drag that to Desktop
C. IMPORT ADDRESS BOOK FROM DESKTOP
Double click on your new email.com account icon on Desktop
Left click on Contacts (on left, under Compose Mail, just above Tasks)
Left click on Import (upper right)
Left click Browse--at top, Look in: use arrow to select Desktop
At bottom, File Name: Type in Address Book--click on Open
Under that line, left click on Import
Left click on OK
NOW YOUR ADDRESS BOOK IS IMPORTED.
D. NOTIFY CORRESPENDENTS OF NEW EMAIL ADDRESS
Go to Contacts (above Tasks)
See list of contacts. Click ALL.
Click on the word EMAIL. All the contacts will appear after To: on the address line of a new message
On the subject line write New Email Address.
Write your message about change of address.
Send
E. Call front desk if you want to change your email address on the resident list.
